Hi, and welcome to Sam the Somm!
I'm Sam (obviously) and while I am not a certified Sommelier, I am a lover of things wine. I am currently a Bachelor's of Business Administration student at the Culinary Institute of America.
Last year, before I graduated from the Associate Degree Program in Culinary Arts and I took a course that focused exclusively on wines. Previous to the class, all I knew about wine was that it was made from grapes. I could not tell you the difference between a Cabernet Sauvignon and a Chardonnay. Wine was nothing more than fermented grape juice that for some crazy reason people would pay hundreds (or thousands?!) for.
Everything changed when for three magical weeks I lived, breathed, and drank wine. My eyes were opened to a whole new world (cue Aladdin music). The class introduced me to the basics of wine including varietals, pairing, and the major wine growing regions. My love for wine has developed since taking the course (and since turning 21...).
I hope to use my little corner of the food blogging universe to guide those new to wine or the current wine lovers through the wine and food world from a different voice. I am by no means a professional but I aim to not come off as one. I am learning (hopefully with you, my reader) and I hope my passion inspires you to try something new and join me on an exciting wine adventure. (Also, I think my boyfriend needs a break from hearing me gush about a new wine I tasted to him.)
Wine is diverse, interesting, and often affordable but, most of all, it has an alcohol content. This is your official go ahead to pop the cork, break out the wine glasses, and start enjoying your fermented grape juice. I already am.
